Privacy Policy for Mihraab

Mihraab (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is a prayer times app for the Maldives. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information is collected, how it is used, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

Mihraab does not require account creation, does not collect personal information, and does not track users.

Device Tokens (Push Notifications & Live Activities)

To deliver prayer time Live Activities and wake the app at prayer times, Mihraab uses Apple Push Notification service (APNs). As part of this process, Apple-issued device tokens are transmitted to and stored on our server. These tokens are:

  • Anonymous identifiers issued by Apple — they are not linked to your name, email address, or any personal identity
  • Used solely to deliver Live Activity notifications for prayer times
  • Stored only for as long as you have the app installed and notifications enabled
  • Automatically removed when they expire or become invalid

Location

If you enable Auto Location, Mihraab requests your device’s GPS location once to identify the nearest island. Your location is:

  • Processed entirely on your device
  • Never transmitted to our server
  • Never stored beyond the immediate selection

Prayer Tracker Data

Your prayer tracking records are stored locally on your device and synced through your personal iCloud account using iCloud Key-Value Storage. This data:

  • Never passes through our servers
  • Is only accessible to you via your Apple ID
  • Can be deleted at any time by deleting the app or removing its iCloud storage

2. How We Use Information

The device tokens described above are used exclusively to:

  • Deliver Live Activity notifications showing prayer countdowns on your lock screen and Dynamic Island
  • Wake the app in the background at prayer times to ensure accurate delivery
  • Send prayer time update and end notifications for running Live Activities

We do not use any information for advertising, analytics, profiling, or any purpose other than delivering prayer time notifications.

3. Data Storage and Security

Device tokens are stored on our secure server hosted by Render (render.com). They are:

  • Stored in a secure environment
  • Not shared with any third parties other than Apple (APNs) for the purpose of push delivery
  • Retained only as long as they remain valid — expired or invalid tokens are automatically deleted when APNs reports them as such

4. Third-Party Services

Mihraab uses the following third-party services:

Apple Push Notification service (APNs)

Used to deliver Live Activity and background wake notifications. Apple’s privacy policy applies to their handling of push notification delivery. See apple.com/privacy.

iCloud Key-Value Storage

Used to sync your prayer tracker data across your own devices. Governed by your Apple ID and Apple’s privacy policy.

Maldives Prayer Times API (namaadhuvaguthu.com)

Used to fetch prayer times for Maldivian islands. Only the island registration number (a non-personal identifier) is sent to retrieve prayer times. No personal data is transmitted.

Render (render.com)

Our server infrastructure provider. Device tokens are stored on Render’s platform. See render.com/privacy.

5. Children’s Privacy

Mihraab does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. The app contains no user accounts, no social features, and no data collection beyond what is described in this policy.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You can control Mihraab’s data use at any time:

Disable notifications

Go to Settings → Notifications → Mihraab and turn off notifications. This stops push token registration with our server.

Disable Live Activities

Go to Settings → Mihraab → Live Activities and turn off. Existing tokens will be removed from our server.

Disable location

Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Mihraab and set to Never.

Delete prayer tracker data

Delete the app to remove all locally stored prayer tracker data. To remove synced iCloud data, go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Mihraab and delete the app’s storage.

Request deletion of server data

To request deletion of your device tokens from our server, contact us at the email below. Tokens are also automatically removed when the app is deleted or when APNs reports them as invalid.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected with an updated date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
